Annual Black Honor Roll
The District’s Annual Black Honor Roll event will be taking place on Saturday, February 19, 2022, to
recognize SBCUSD students for their outstanding academic achievement and/or good attendance during the fall of 2021. Approximately 1,700 students will be honored during this year’s event.
This program is part of the Equity and Targeted Student Achievement (ETSA) Department’s efforts to celebrate African-American students and families who are working hard, demonstrating excellence, and achieving

Monday’s a Holiday
SBCUSD schools and offices will be closed on Monday, February 21, 2022, in observance of the President’s
Day holiday.
Drive-Thru Food Giveaway
A drive-thru food distribution hosted by Tzu Chi USA will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at the SBCUSD
Board of Education building located at 777 North F Street. The food drive is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. or while supplies last.

Operation Student Recovery
On Thursday, February 24, 2022, District staff and community volunteers will be participating in Operation
Student Recovery (OSR) and supporting students and families through home visits. OSR is the District’s award winning program designed to help reduce chronic absenteeism for our most vulnerable students. To learn

High School Senior Scholarship Opportunities
SBCUSD partners with many organizations to offer scholarships that help students continue
their education beyond high school. If you know a SBCUSD high school senior that may be interested in applying for a scholarship, please visit the District’s Community Engagement website at https://sbcusd.com/district_offices/community_engagement_office/scholarships. The application deadline is Monday, February 28, 2022 at 12 p.m.

State Indoor Mask Mandate
While the state’s indoor mask mandate expired on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, for vaccinated Californians, the
current statewide mandate requiring face coverings in schools for students and educators remains in place. For now, that means all California students, school employees, and visitors must continue wearing face coverings while
indoors in schools and District buildings.
Changes to mask mandates for schools may be coming soon, but this will not automatically change what happens in SBCUSD. We will keep you informed about any changes that apply to our schools and district buildings.

New COVID-19 Testing Management Option
A recent California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidance change now provides SBCUSD with another option to quickly
identify positive COVID-19 cases on District campuses. In addition to the current individual contact tracing process, SBCUSD may begin rolling out the use of a group tracing option on Monday, March 7, 2022.
Testing students for COVID-19 in schools can help families stay healthy by identifying exposure early, but will only be done for students when parents/guardians allow it. As SBCUSD prepares to introduce group tracing as a second option for tracking
COVID-19 exposure in schools, parents/guardians are asked to provide their consent. Giving consent in advance will reduce disruptions to student learning. Parents/Guardians who give consent for students to participate in testing will be notified
before each test. Please click here for the parent letter and consent/opt-out form or watch for them to come home with your student, via ParentSquare and in your mailbox.
