Family Engagement Conference Designed To Help Strengthen Family Bonds and Student Achievement

The San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) invites all parents and guardians to attend the free, two-day Family Engagement Conference 2017 at the end of August.
The conference will address topics such as parent personality types, cultural relevance, how to help your child on the road to college, and more. The goal is to improve student academic achievement by involving parents in the educational process and helping create the positive relationships that parents want with their children. Studies have shown that students perform better in school when they have strong family ties and parents who show an interest in their education.
The SBCUSD Family Engagement Office is offering two sessions to meet the needs of busy parents. The first session is Monday and Tuesday, August 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day. The second session is Wednesday and Thursday, August 30 and 31 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The same presenters will cover the same topics at both sessions.
“We wanted to make sure that as many parents as possible could attend this important event,” said Family Engagement Director Aldo Ramirez. “In the past, the conference was only held during the day, and that left out a lot of parents. That’s why we are offering both daytime and evening sessions this year.”
The Family Engagement Office is also offering participants several services to make sure everyone in our diverse community feels welcome.
All presentations will be offered in English and Spanish. The morning session will be presented in Spanish with English interpretation provided upon request. The evening session will be in English with Spanish interpretation provided as needed.
Free childcare will be provided during both sessions for children who are not in diapers and are at least three years old. Children enrolled in 1st through 12th grade are expected to be in school during the daytime session.
The Family Engagement Conference 2017 will be held at Joy Harvest Church, 2237 Sepulveda Avenue, San Bernardino 92404. Seating is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, call the SBCUSD Family Engagement Office at (909) 880-4057.
